interdisciplinary art & design
Each letter of the typeface I designed for Appalachian State University’s 2008 Department of Art Biennial Exhibition is built with two basic parts: curves and straight lines.
I have found that limitations on my design choices can be quite liberating. By setting simple rules for how these letters were built, I surrendered to a process that leads to a solution I may never have thought of.
This alphabet, based on two simple forms commonly seen in art, became the basis for the logotype used in the exhibition’s promotional materials which included signage, a postcard and brochure.
